新的氟化物相關發展或將能促成電力更持久的電動車電池誕生
研究人員過去便對外公開過一項擁有突破性技術的新型電池能有效地比當前的鋰電池儲存更多的能量。該技術特別的地方在於它採用了元素週期表中電負性electro-negative最強的氟化物而不是週期表上電正性electro-positive最強的元素也就是現在常見的鋰來進行製作。但自發現以來該技術卻只能在攝氏 150 度以上的環境才得以順利運行也帶來了實際運用上的限制。好消息是稍早來自 Honda、加州理工學院和 NASA 的科學家終於發現了讓這種電池在室溫下運作的辦法未來也將有機會能以此技術為電動汽車和相關設備帶來更高能量密度且對環境相對友善的新型電池。
這類氟離子電池運作的方式基本上和鋰電池是相反的它是吸引電子而不是讓電子脫離。對於電池來說氟化物Flouride是一種十分有趣的材料因為它同時具備了低原子量和非常高的電子儲存能力。然而在過去科學家卻需要將氟離子溶解至加熱至高溫的固體電解質當中才得以讓一切順利運作。
為了解決這個問題來自 Honda、加州理工學院和 NASA 的科學家團隊創造了一種名為 BTFE 的液態電解質可以使氟化物在室溫的環境下順利溶解於其中。而在電解質中兩個充滿正電的區域間就能利用「異性相吸」的原理讓充滿負電的氟化物產生強烈的反應。
接著科學家們進一步將電解質與銅、鑭和氟搭配起來成功地製造出一種能夠在室溫下能夠進行逆向化學反應也就是充電的原型電池。總而言之這種電池應該能擁有當前鋰電池 10 倍的能量密度。此外根據 Honda 的說法這類新型電池對環境危害的程度也比過往還低。
但老實說這類新的電池技術在過去也我們聽過不少只是後續發展似乎都不如預期。而細看這次的資訊其實也有幾個值得思考的環節。例如該團隊仍需要找到穩定正極和負極狀態的方式解決兩極往往會一起溶解在電解質當中的問題。雖然他們當前仍在測試的階段相信也將陸續獲得新的進展但也希望我們不用再為這類「實驗室中看起來很厲害但遲遲無法實際運用在產品上」的電池失望囉。
